Listen up professionals… here is a very real and high profile example of personal reputation management.

Controversial “comedian” and journalist for Melbourne broadsheet The Age has shown us all how very important it is to remember that published comments directly impact your personal brand.

Deveny posted comments using social media platform twitter during Sundays Logies ceremony (for non Australian readers, the Logies are television awards) The majority of comments are too distasteful to be repeated on our blog, however Deveny made personal attacks (which she has now claimed were taken out of context) on celebrities attending the event.

Deveny has since come under fire and in a surprising move by Fairfax media has been sacked as an in-house writer for The Age, with Editor-In-Chief, Paul Ramadge citing he views she has expressed recently on Twitter are not in keeping with the standards we set at The Age,”

To us its painfully obvious, don’t say anything you may regret. Opinions are one thing, however vicious, spiteful and disrespect is another.

Upon receiving an invitation to a friends party Throne had noticed that the privacy settings we left as open to the public. Thorne, proceeded to inform all of his twitter followers attracting over 60,0000 “attendees” to the event, demonstrating 1. the power of social media 2. The importance of ensuing privacy is protected. Thorne was quoted as saying: “It’s important, regardless of individual privacy settings, to treat all information that you include on these social networking sites as completely public and include personal information appropriately,” he said. The party was eventually cancelled and the page removed however the addition of facebook fan pages such as “We met at Kate’s Party”, “Kate’s party would have gone off” have surfaced.
